Anthony McMahon, PsyD
Clinical Psychologist
My specialties are anxiety, prolonged trauma reactions, obsessive compulsive disorder, and depression. I also have extensive experience working with adults who developed deeply rooted coping patterns that once helped them survive difficult circumstances during childhood and adolescence. Later in life, these coping patterns can create challenges with extreme emotions, unstable relationships, low self-esteem, and a confused sense of identity. My clients have often been told that they have “mood swings,” or that they are “manipulative” and “controlling.” What they really want is to feel safe, have meaningful relationships, and live a fulfilling life, but these goals always feel out of reach. I use scientifically supported therapies to help my clients understand what needs their patterns are trying to meet, and then we work together to learn more effective ways to meet these needs and have a fulfilling life.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Carroll University in 2011. I completed my graduate training in Clinical Psychology at the APA Accredited Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2016. My APA accredited internship was with Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. I have provided evidence-based psychotherapy to hundreds of clients through the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Corrections, community-based intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, and private practice. I currently lead outpatient mental health teams within the Department of Veterans Affairs.
I grew up in a small city on the coast of Lake Michigan, just south of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Outside of work, I love hiking in the mountains, playing soccer, falling graciously while attempting to ski, and rooting for the Green Bay Packers.
